Spring is almost here… I think, and I have uncovered and pruned the grapes and have been looking at apple trees a lot. A traditional tool for pruning is the serpette (french word for a “pruning knife”). I recently picked up a repro of a serpette from a friend in a trade. It was made by John “Smitty” Smith of WI and is a small folding serpette with a boxwood handle.
Anyway, this is a slick little knife, and the shape of the blade really makes it a nice for making clean cuts while pruning small vines/branches. I am really tempted to try my hand at grafting now.
