Polar Vortex means warmer clothes

Well, the “Polar Vortex” shifted and this means another two days off of school.  Regular temps are only -10F or less this time around with windchills down around -30 or so.  Not too bad and certainly warm enough that I was allowed to get out and snowshoe a bit.  I also got out (on snowshoes as we have over 2 ft. of white) and cut a bunch of fir boughs for bedding in the tipi.  I am having a few friends over this...

Racquettes for kids and the New Year

In time for the New Year, I finished the snowshoes that I was making for the kids.  I split out the hickory and bent the frames earlier this summer.  Over the Christmas break, I was able to mortise in the crossbars, put in the selvedge cord and yarn tufts, and lace them up with bison rawhide that I cut to lacings.  These are not great works of art, but they should keep the kids on the top of the snow and give them the...
