Finishing some projects

Finishing some projects

It has been a good couple of weeks.  Since getting new historic clothing done for the kids, I have been able to get some projects done for me.  I finished the checked linen shirt.  I also got a pair of later style pantaloons (tight trousers… the skinny jeans of the period) made out of a nice “mixed cloth.”  As I worked down the to do list, I made a new oilcloth, put a better handle on the hand dague blade that Ken Hamilton made me, and I opened up the carrot of tobacco that I rolled from last year’s tabac.

In other news, the weather is nothing but rain, wet, and damp.  I have been fighting too wet gardens, too wet basement (with subsequent wrecking of stuff), and working some hides that won’t dry (but do attract blow flies like crazy!).  My biggest hope is that at least the creek and marsh are getting filled back up and the beaver, muskrat, and mink numbers will be good for trapping this fall.

  1. Greetings Isaac, I spent most of my formative years in Quebec Province and most of the folks I knew would be classed as Habitant. I enjoyed their company very much and especially their wisdom. Their skills in the bush was outstanding. Most of what I learned about moose hunting and beaver trapping was the best instruction. The French Quebecois are a warm and friendly people but they do not abide pretentious personalities. They find them “aggravating.” Thankyou for your wonderful articles… they are received with pleasure. Bon Chance! Cordially, Robert Barrie
